Self Story Terms of Use & Privacy Conditions
Last Revised: Sept 29, 2026
Your privacy is critically important to us. At Self Story, we have a few fundamental principles:
- We are thoughtful about the personal information we ask you to provide and the personal information that we collect about you through the operation of our services.
- We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it.
- We aim to make it as simple as possible for you to control what information in your goals, time logs, and Self Story is shared publicly (or kept private), indexed by search engines, and permanently deleted.
- We help protect you from overreaching government demands for your personal information.
- We aim for full transparency on how we gather, use, and share your personal information.
Below is our Privacy Policy, which incorporates and clarifies these principles.
Who We Are and What This Covers
We’re Gamedolf Limited, the folks behind the Self Story application and its related websites (each, an “App” or a “Site”, respectively). Through Self Story’s App and Site, we offer you a positive Self Storying and goal-tracking platform to record your target progress, time expenditures, and personal memories, and, if you wish, share them with others as well.
Below we explain how we collect, use, and share information about you, along with the choices that you have with respect to that information.
Throughout this Privacy Policy we’ll refer to Self Story’s Sites, Apps, and other services collectively as “Services.” This Privacy Policy only applies to the Self Story Services and not to other services provided by Gamedolf Limited.
Information We Collect
We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so — for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, or to make our Services better.
We collect this information from three sources: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources. Let’s go over the information that we collect.
1. Information You Provide Us
It’s probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us directly. Here are some examples:
Your Self Story & Goal Entries: The most important thing we collect from you are your goals, time-tracking logs, and positive Self Story entries. Your entries are private by default. This means that when you use Self Story to log progress or write journals, none of the entries are made publicly viewable on the Internet, nor are they accessible to other Self Story users.
Account Information: If you register and open an Account with us in order to use services like Sync and Backups across devices, you provide us basic account information including your email address and a password.
Transactional Information: When you purchase Services (e.g., premium subscriptions), we may collect information to complete and record the transaction, such as your name, billing details, and payment records.
Communications with Us: You may also provide us with information when you provide us feedback or communicate with our support team about a question. When you communicate with us via form, email, or otherwise, we store a copy of our communications.
2. Information We Collect Automatically
We also collect some information automatically:
Log Information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, including browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, date/time of access, operating system, and mobile network information.
Device and Usage Information: We collect your device type, wireless carrier, individual device ID, and how you use Self Story. In addition, if our App crashes on your mobile device, we receive crash logs (software version, device model) to help us fix bugs and improve performance.
Information from Cookies & Other Technologies: Like many online services, we use cookies and pixel tags to identify visitors, track usage, and measure the effectiveness of communication campaigns. We may use tools like Google Analytics to analyze usage (which is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy).
3. Information We Collect from Other Sources
We may also get information about you from other sources:
Third-Party Account Information: When you connect Self Story to your Apple, Google, or other social accounts to log in, we may access basic user data such as your name, user ID, and email address.
How We Use the Information We Collect
We use your personal information to:
- Provide you with Self Story Services and customer support;
- Market Services to you and send you news, advertisements, goal-tracking reminders, and motivation that we believe interests you;
- Respond to your requests, resolve disputes, and troubleshoot problems;
- Improve the Services and personalize your experience;
- Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with our Services;
- Detect, investigate, and help prevent security incidents and illegal activity; and
- Comply with our legal and financial obligations.
We will communicate with you primarily via push alerts, emails, or in-app notifications. You can manage the frequency or opt out of these communications by changing your settings in the Self Story App or clicking “Unsubscribe” in marketing emails.
Anonymous Information
We reserve the right to disclose aggregated or anonymous information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you without restriction.
How Long We Keep Information
We generally discard information about you when it’s no longer needed for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and we are not legally required to keep it.
Web server logs are kept for a few months for security and traffic analysis.
If you close and delete your Self Story account, all your journal entries, goal logs, attachments, and account data will be permanently deleted.
Security
While no online service is 100% secure, Gamedolf Limited works very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction.
To enhance security, new journal entries in Self Story support end-to-end encryption. Journal entries that use end-to-end encryption cannot be accessed by anyone — including us — except the logged-in author of the entry.
Your Choices
Limit/Update Your Information: You can review, update, or delete certain personal information via your account settings inside the Self Story App.
Delete the App: Uninstalling the App stops further data collection on your mobile device.
Opt-Out of Marketing: You may opt out of push notifications through instructions in those messages or within App settings.
Cookie Settings: You can configure your browser to reject cookies, though some features of the Site may not function properly.
Your Rights (GDPR & US State Privacy Laws)
Depending on your location (such as the European Union, UK, Switzerland, or certain US States like California), you may have legal rights regarding your personal information, including:
- The right to request access to or a copy of your personal data;
- The right to request correction or deletion of your personal data;
- The right to object to or limit our processing of your personal data;
- The right to data portability; and
- The right to lodge a complaint with a Data Protection Authority.
Gamedolf Limited does not “sell” or “share” your personal data as defined under applicable US state privacy laws.
Child Usage Restrictions
Our Services are not directed to children, and children under 13 years of age are not eligible to use Self Story. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take immediate steps to delete such information.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
Although most changes are likely to be minor, Self Story may update its Privacy Policy from time to time. We encourage users to frequently check this page or the App settings for changes. Continued use of Self Story after policy updates constitutes acceptance of the changes.
